Roadworks in your area

We look after more than 74,000 kilometres of pipes across our network. Making sure these pipes deliver your gas safely and reliably means that we need to upgrade or repair them at times. We know that roadworks can be frustrating, but our essential work keeps you, your family and local community safe.

Roadworks FAQs

We have a number of helpful frequently asked questions at the bottom of this page, under the Help and advice heading.

Emergency gas pipe repairs

When upgrading pipes or installing a new connection, we can plan the roadworks in advance. But when safety is at stake we must respond quickly and efficiently, and this may mean having to carry out streetworks at very short notice or at night. Sometimes we have to start work before the information filters through to our map. When that happens, we’ll add that information here.

Friday 3 May - Hamm Beach Road, Portland

Our engineers are on site in Hamm Beach Road following a high-volume gas escape caused by a third party.

We have now secured the gas leak which means Hamm Beach Road and all local businesses, including the local Lidl, can re-open as normal tomorrow morning.

Once again, we’d like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to the local community.

Tuesday 30 April - High Street, Margate

Our engineers have been investigating a gas leak in High Street, Margate, outside St John the Baptist Church.

The source of the leak has now been identified and our specialist team has decided to replace our gas main in High Street, rather than carry out emergency repairs. This will avoid any future disruption.

We will begin our gas network upgrade work this morning. To ensure everyone's safety, High Street will be closed around our work area.

From the Queens Road Roundabout, traffic can only travel one way along Grosvenor Gardens and into Churchfields, but there is no access into the High Street.

Signed diversion routes will be in place for motorists.

Monday 29 April - A28 Ashford Road, Chilham.

We’re carrying out urgent repairs to fix a leak on our medium pressure main along A28 Ashford Road at Chilham.

For everyone’s safety, A28 Ashford Road is closed to motorists between its junctions with Branch Road and Pope Street. A signed diversion route via the A28, A2040, A251 and A252 is in place for affected road users.

This is a complex engineering procedure involving specialist equipment.

It is likely that our site will be unmanned periodically while we wait for the specialist equipment to be delivered to site. We will however be carrying out regular site safety checks and monitoring the leak.

We estimate the road will be closed until Tuesday 7 May. We apologise for the impact on the community and road users, but this work is essential to ensuring local homes and business continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas.

Tuesday 23 April - Popley Way, Basingstoke

We’re carrying out emergency work in Popley Way, Basingstoke, to improve the gas pressure in our network. This essential work involves increasing the size of the gas service to Apollo Hotel.

To ensure everyone’s safety, we have closed Popley Road one-way, for motorists entering Popley Way from Aldermaston Roundabout. A signed diversion route is in place. Motorists exiting Popley Way onto the roundabout are unaffected.

All going well, we hope to complete our work, restore the road surface and reopen Popely Way as normal by Wednesday 1 May.

We apologise for any disruption and would like to thank anyone affected for your patience while we carry out this urgent work.

Tuesday 23 April - Pound Road, Lyme Regis

We’re relaying a gas service pipe in Pound Road, Lyme Regis, to improve gas pressure for our customers.

Due to the location of our gas main and the narrowness of the road, we needed to close Pound Road to complete our work safely.

Signed diversions are in place and access is being maintained for residents.

All going well, we hope to complete our work, restore the road surface to the required specifications and reopen Pound Road as normal on Thursday 25 April.

We’d like to thank everyone affected for your patience and support

Thursday 18 April - Beckenham Hill Road, London SE6

We need to close Beckenham Hill Road one way, at its junction with Bromley Road, from 8pm tonight for emergency gas repairs.

The closure will only affect motorists turning onto Beckenham Hill Road from Bromley Road. Motorist turning onto Bromley Road from Beckenham Road will not be affected.

A significant diversion will be in place via Bromley Road, Catford Road, Perry Hill, Sydenham Road, Westwood Hill, Crystal Palace Parade, Anerley Road, Croydon Road, Beckenham Road and Rectory Road.

We apologise for any disruption and advise that you leave extra time for your journey.

It's too early to say at this stage how long our repairs will take to complete. We'll update you on our progress here.

Thursday 18 April - Strathmore Street, Perth

We're carrying out urgent network repairs at the junction of Strathmore Street and Isla Road.

Our engineers are working to fix a leak and there's temporary traffic lights in place around our work area to ensure everyone's safety and manage traffic flow.

It's too early to say how long it will take to complete this work but updates will be provided here.

Friday 12 April - Plumstead High Street

We need to renew our gas network in Plumstead High Street.

Following discussion with Greenwich Council, we have installed three-way traffic lights at this location and implemented a closure of Woodhurst Road. One of the team will man the lights from 7am until 7pm to minimise disruption.

All being well, the work within the road closure should be completed and cleared by 26 April, at which time we will set up a smaller road closure in Camrose Street with some carriageway incursion in Plumstead High Street. The second phase should be completed in approximately three weeks.

Our team is working seven days a week to ensure any disruption to the local community is minimised.

Monday 8 April – Duke Street, Glasgow

Our engineers are continuing essential emergency repairs to our gas main in Duke Street, Glasgow

In order to complete repairs, our team has put a full road closure in place between Duke Street’s junctions with Shettleston Road and Todd Street. This is complex engineering work being carried out in deep excavations using specialist equipment and contractors.

We’re aiming to complete repairs, reinstate the road surface and reopen Duke Street as normal in three weeks.

We’d like to than Glasgow residents, motorists and businesses for your patience and understanding while we work as quickly and safely as possible to repair your gas network.
